Leadership Emission Theory

by Zaldy Carreon De Leon Jr.

I have written this concept paper in 2018.

This undergraduate thesis presents the foundational framework and generation of a leadership theory based on the transcendental and emergent leadership skills that are found at the Ultimate Leadership Foundation Modules 1-4 entitled ‘Raising-Up New Generation of Leaders.’

The study begins with an exposition of the ideas of Jim Clemmer, John Maxwell and Zig Ziglar. These noted leadership authorities established their understanding and perspectives on leadership – Clemmer differentiated managerial from leadership skills; Maxwell teaches spiritual leadership skills; Ziglar assumes holistic leadership skills.

On the other hand, Part II of the review of literature focuses on a liberal study of various theories and a range of leadership skills in which the ULF Modules are anchored. These are the Transactional Leadership, Transformational Leadership, and Houses’ Goal-Path Theory. Each of these offers some insights into the qualities of successful leaders – qualities that are found on the ‘categories’ of Clemmer, ‘leadership skills’ of Maxwell, and ‘qualities’ of Ziglar.

The review concludes with the virtue of transcendent and emergent leadership skills. The next section, presents the research design in which a Grounded Theory Approach is chained – a multi-stage data collection, analysis, and interpretation of data allows the researchers to triangulate data from various sources, analyze these data using expository, comparative, and data analysis methodologies; and validates their interpretation using the categories, leadership skills, and qualities of the primary leadership authorities mentioned above.

Furthermore, the use of Maxwell’s checklist, qualitative strategies (specifically, triangulation of data, rich and thick description, content checking, intolerance to bias, and an examination of an external auditor), qualitative generalization, and intercoder agreement through the use of Text Mining and Textual Analytics are all used as qualitative tools which strengthen the consistency and accuracy of the study which eventually leads to the Leadership Emission Theory.

The following section includes the result of the various methods used in the study. It is reflected that, based on research question 1, there are 154 leadership skills out of 203 sessions and sub-sessions from Module 1-4 validated by Clemmer and Maxwell. On research question 2, the researchers found out that there is a slight difference as to the number of sub-sessions from Clemmer and Maxwell. In cross-referencing technique, the researchers counted the number of repetitions and has given a differential value to the leadership skills emphasized and de-emphasized at the Modules. On research question 3, the relationship of these leadership skills are compared at the Coding Book. It is found out that the various leadership authorities had a unanimous opinion at 93.33% to 100% accuracy based on the Text Mining and Textual Analytics.

All of these research questions pointed to the theoretical framework of the theory whose full discussion will be found on Part II of this study. On the last section, it is concluded that while Clemmer deemed ‘The heart,’ ‘Doing the Right Thing’, and “Proactive’ as the leading leadership skills; and Maxwell had ‘Character,’ ‘Positive Attitude’, ’Personal Charm’ and ‘Relationship’ as primary leadership skills, the researchers used these 7 primary leadership skills to formulate.
